CabinetMaker+FDM

October 20, 2014

castleCastle CSI featured in the cover article of CabinetMaker+FDM October Issue

The cover story of the October 2014 issue of Woodworking Network, is titled “Armstrong Cabinets Reborn as ACPI”. This article tells the story of ACPI, and how they have transformed factory operations when faced with strong competition and a changing market.

Walter Cisowski (COO), Mac McMacken (Plant Manager), and Kreig Rugh (Sourcing Director) joined forces in April 2013 at ACPI and immediately started to develop a science to maximize efficiency that re-energized the company. “We gutted, restructured, and rebuilt, and we have become very nimble” Cisowski mentions. Castle machinery was a piece of that restructuring plan as ACPI converted to pocket screw joinery and made a $350,000 investment with the Castle Machinery pocket line. While the earlier bore and dowel frame production output 2,000 frames with 35 employees, the pocket screw lines allow 17 people to produce 3,000 frames a day.

castleCastle CSI featured in the cover article of CabinetMaker+FDM October Issue

The cover story of the October 2013 issue of CabinetMaker+FDM, is titled “Efficient operation boosts hotel furniture business”. This article tells the story of Solid Comfort, from a residential furniture producer in 1981, to the large scale hotel furniture manufacturer it is today.

Not only are two Castle CSI machines a part of their efficiently organized manufacturing approach, but integral to Solid Comfort’s commitment to build furniture “for parts replacement”. While some hotel furniture manufacturers simply discontinue product lines every few years, necessitating a sizable new investment on the part of the consumer, “Solid Comfort can still replace a nightstand top or drawer front on a 15-year-old product”, allowing for more cost effective updates. According to company president Jason Larkin, “The design of our product is built around parts replacement. Hence the angle concealed screws”.
